The Benefits of Full-Mouth Scaling and Root Planing
Full-mouth SRP may be more beneficial to the patient as well as to the efficiency of the dental practice.
Potential for Enhanced Clinical Outcomes
A 1995 study by Quirynen et al, found that the oro-pharyngeal area is an “open growth system,” and that periodontal pockets are a perfect habitat for certain organisms. Periodontal pathogens have the opportunity to translocate, thus jeopardizing the healing of recently treated instrumented sites.10
